I sometimes hear this NPR series called "This I Believe" on WBUR (check out the link under Some Sites You Should Check Out), and it makes me wonder how I would craft my statement of what I believe.
I was reminded of Bull Durham when Annie Savoy says, "I believe in the Church of Baseball." (check out the full quote here). When Crash Davis says he doesn't believe in "quantum physics when it comes to matters of the heart" Annie asks what he does believe in. He lists a litany of things, ending with one of the ultimate onscreen foreplay lines: "long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days."
In Before Sunrise Celine states "I believe if there's any kind of God it wouldn't be in any of us, not you or me but just this little space in between." (check out the full quote here). One reason I like this movie so much is that all the characters do is talk about what they believe and believe in. Jesse and Celine continue the conversation in Before Sunset when they are much older, still trying to figure it all out and she says "I don't wanna be one of those people that don't believe in any kind of magic, you know?"
So what are some things I believe in?
I believe that you should always make someone feel special on their birthday--she might be far from her family or friends, or he might have all the friends in the world, but your birthday is your day, even if it's in the dead of winter in a month that everyone else hates!
I believe that everyone should own an animal. As I've noted on this blog, I've lost two, and never mentioned my first cat, Tessie, whom I lost when I was in my mid-twenties. There is absolutely nothing like the relationship between a human and their pet. People with pets live longer happier lives. Think of all the unwanted animals in this world because of the morons who don't know how to take care of them!
I believe that we should try as hard as we can not to be frauds.
I believe that we should love people because of their quirks, not in spite of them.
I believe that we should have ideals that we live by every day. Yes, we're human, and as such have faults and make errors, fib, and make bad decisions. But the people with ideals that are true and honest and good and unselfish are people I look up to.
I believe that we are more than the sum of our parts.

i have been trying to come up with something profound or at least intelligent sounding to add onto this list of "i believe"... but nothing seems to be coming to mind.
I believe each and every one of us crave attention and affection, but few of us know the right way to attain it.
I believe that we spend so much time focusing on "big things", "big events", "big everything" that we overlook most of what life it truly about. It really is the simplest of things that make a difference in someones day... and once you add all those together... it is the "big stuff".
I believe you need to blog more because I enjoy reading your posts... haha... and I need something to justify spending so much time on line for...
And lastly, I believe that animals can provide more love and affection than many humans can no matter how hard they try. Nothing love unconditional love, wet noses, and little doggy-kitty kisses. :) Ok, corny animal ending. That's what wine does to me.
