When scrolling through the songs, I realized there not only were no female bands (I get it: the Go-Go's or The Donnas? C'mon, really) but there were no female fronted bands. I mean Chrissie Hynde rocks. I don't care what anybody says.
If I ever had a fantasy of being a rock star it would be to be her. And I did, for a while in high school, want to be her. But, being that I never played a musical instrument growing up, am tone deaf when it comes to singing, I never had a chance of making that fantasy come true. I just wanted to be up on stage, fronting the guys in my band (it IS her band -- can you name any of the rotating drummers, guitarists or bassists from The Pretenders?) in a dark, smoky club snarling "Trapped in a world that they never made, But not me, baby, I'm too precious. I had to fuck off!"
Kim Deal. Liz Phair. Lucinda Williams. PJ Harvey.

I liked when Sheila E. had her fifteen minutes because you hardly ever see female drummers (besides, she's got a cool name), but she was always dominated by Prince. But I thought it would be so awesome to wale on the drums.
Rock Star or Guitar Hero don't have a lot to do with musical talent, though. It's all hand-eye coordination. I, finally, by the fifth or sixth song achieved an 89% of hit notes. Not bad. Granted, it was in the Easy category. And I was on bass.
I used to be amazing at Galaga. And I wasn't too shabby at Pac Man or (get ready, I'm dating myself more than I already have) Asteroids. Lately I do better at word games. I once got to over 300,000 points in Super Text Twist.

For a split second today I almost made the bad decision to go out and buy Guitar Hero and then spend my summer practicing and demand a rematch. Just to prove I can do it.

i have to toot my own horn... even though i personally suck at guitar hero... i was a million and one times better than tim. haha. i think he got "boo-ed" of the stage in record time. literally. it was like a matter of 10-15 seconds and he was off. and he never tried it again. (which bothers me as well!)
guitar hero has more songs with female leads, but i agree, it is primarily male driven. but what isn't. haha. just kidding. Hit Me With Your Best Shot is one of my favorite guitar hero jams.
next time you play, let me know. we'll form a girl band and challenge the boys... and kick their ass. (we'll put tim on their team and they will have no chance!)
